A Stunning Omega Constellation Vintage Timepiece.
시계 가지는 높은 가치와 아름다움으로 인해 많은 오메가 콜렉터에게 사랑을 받는 모델이 바로 ‘컨스틸레이션’입니다. 컨스틸레이션 빈티지 라인에서 찾아볼 수 있는 다이얼 위 십자선은 콜렉터의 눈길을 사로잡는 시계의 매력 포인트인데요.
이외에도 텍스처(textured) 다이얼과, 넓고 굵직한 다이아몬드형 인덱스(diamond-shaped), 흔히 칼침이라 불리는 도피네(Dauphine) 핸즈, 양각으로 놓여진 오메가 심볼 마크 등 각각의 디테일이 살아 있으면서도 조화로운 얼굴을 가지고 있습니다.
다이얼 복원 작업 시, 블루 다이얼로의 복원 여부를 두고 고민이 참 많았습니다. 한참을 고민 끝에 결국은 본래의 컬러로 복원을 진행하였습니다. 이유는 모르겠지만, 기존에 시계가 가지고 있던 차분하고 정갈한 멋을 그대로 이어가고 싶은 마음이 컸습니다. 케이스는 새로이 도금하였으며 세월 앞에 헤진 운모 유리도 교체해주었습니다.

1952년 처음 발매된 이후 현재까지 다양한 모델로 출시되고 있는 컨스틸레이션 라인입니다. 지극히 개인적인 생각으로 오메가는 현행보다 빈티지 시계에서 오는 가치와 멋이 더욱 크다고 생각하는데요. 그 중 단연 압권인 모델이 바로 컨스틸레이션입니다. 1952년 Cal. 354 범퍼 무브먼트를 시작으로 다양한 라인을 출시하였습니다.

1950-1970년대 사이 생산된 빈티지 컨스틸레이션은 고풍적인 디자인과 희소성으로 그 가치가 매우 크다고 할 수 있는데요. 빈티지 오메가 콜렉터라면 누구나 눈독 들이는 오메가 라인입니다. 그 중 파이판(pie-pan)이라 불리는 모델은 그 아름다움과 가치가 매우 높아 많은 이들로 하여금 이베이란 망망대해를 끊임없이 항해토록 하는 주범이기도 합니다.
시계 직경은 34mm이며 두께는 11mm입니다. 러그 사이즈는 18mm입니다. 컨스틸레이션의 특징 중 하나는 바로 다이얼입니다. 볼드한 인덱스와 핸즈 그리고 양각으로 놓여진 오메가 마크가 눈에 띄며 다이얼을 4등분으로 가르는 십자선이 시계의 디테일한 매력을 더해줍니다.
한가지 아쉬운 점이 있다면 제가 구매한 시계는 컨스틸레이션의 가장 큰 아이덴티티인 케이스백의 천문대 마크가 없습니다. 구매 당시에는 몰랐는데, 알고보니 시마스터 케이스백으로 교체되었더군요. 아쉬운 마음이 크지만 출시한지 50년이 넘은 빈티지 시계이기에 이해할 수 밖에요.
이베이에서 구매한 'ZRC'사의 그린 칼프(calf) 스트랩을 체결해주었습니다. 경박하지 않은 무거운 진녹색으로 시계와의 조화가 썩 나쁘지 않습니다. 오메가 컨스틸레이션 모델 중 스테인리스 스틸이 아닌 솔리드 골드 18K 모델도 간혹 이베이에서 보이는데요. 금액대가 참 무자비합니다. 컨스틸레이션이라는 모델이 가지는 희귀성과 더불어 금이라는 소재까지 더해져 매우 높은 가치를 형성하고 있는 것이 사실입니다. 언젠가는 제 손목에 채워질 날을 기약해봅니다.

Here, we have a graceful and exquisite vintage watch from Omega. The watch is very beautiful with its textured dial. There are some appealing elements that make the watch attractive to a lot of watch collectors.
Diamond-shaped hour markers and dauphine hands are stunning and harmonious. The textured dial with cross printing is one of the most distinctive points of the watch. In addition, a 10-sided crown with an Omega mark puts a period of its perfection of beauty. I sincerely love this richly decorated dial. The watch comes with a gold-capped case which is durable more than plated and even filled. The size of the watch is 34mm in diameter, 11mm in thickness and has 18mm lug.
The watch has fully been serviced by experts. A heart of the watch has been overhauled and keeps accuracy. A case has also newly plated. An acrylic glass which has had a lot of scratches has been replaced by new one. When I put this fully restored timepiece on my wrist, I can feel a sense of achievement which makes me blissful by releasing dopamine and sort of related hormones. It also seems like I am being a very successful person than ever.
Works revitalizing vintage watches is always fun and exciting. The works should be implemented very carefully in order not to lose its original appearances and identity. When I receive a watch which is fully serviced or customized from experts, I feel like being a very professional timepiece collector.
The history of the constellation dates back to 1952 as its first release in the market. The Omega introduced the constellation as a marketing opportunity to promote the fact that they had set a record for chronometer competition at the Geneva Observatory.
The watch had gained a lot of popularity for many people. The Omega's fist constellation model has a bumper movement(Cal. 354) and lovely diamond-shaped hour markers. A few years later since its first release, the Omega constellation had shifted its main movement from Cal.354(bumper movement) to Cal. 50X series. The Cal. 50X series came with a normal rotor with several versions; date or non-date. So far, the vintage constellation is regarded as collectible items for many watch collectors.
