라도는 스와치그룹 산하 오메가와 해밀턴 사이 론진급으로 포지셔닝되어 있는 브랜드입니다. 세라믹 가공에 있어서는 선두적인 워치메이킹 기술을 보유하고 있으며, 현행으로 발행되는 라인을 보면 심플리시티를 강조한 진보적이고 모던한 디자인의 시계가 주를 이루고 있습니다. 개인적으로는 스와치그룹 주력 브랜드인 오메가와 함께 현행으로 생산되는 시계보다는 빈티지 라인이 더욱 예쁜 브랜드라 생각합니다. 

라도는 80-90년대 일본에서 선풍적인 인기를 끌었으며, 당시 발매되었던 시계는 현재까지도 많은 사랑을 받고 있습니다. 허나 국내에서는 인지도가 조금 약한 편이라 할 수 있는데요. 빈티지 시계 필드에선 나름 두터운 매니아층이 존재하는 브랜드이긴 하지만, 일반인을 대상으로 했을 때 비주류 브랜드로 치부되어 버리는 것은 어쩔 수 없는 사실입니다.

개인적으로 라도 빈티지 라인 중에서 가장 높은 가치를 매기는 모델은 바로 'Daymaster'와 'Green/Golden Horse' 두 라인입니다. 도피네(Dauphine) 핸즈와 볼드한 인덱스, 라도 빈티지 모델에서만 찾아 볼 수 있는 12시 방향의 닻 로고 등 클래식한 멋을 한 껏 뽐내며 드레스워치로서 손색 없는 정갈함을 보여주기 때문인데요. 

일전에 구매한 'Daymaster' 모델에 대한 만족감이 매우 높아 이번 구매 또한 큰 고민 없이 이루어졌습니다. 저렴한 금액에 낙찰 받은 만큼 시계 컨디션은 그닥 좋지 못했는데요. 케이스 도금과 함께 다이얼 복원 작업을 진행하였습니다. 빈티지 시계 콜렉터를 보면 크게 두가지 성향으로 나뉩니다. 하나는 시계가 머금고 있는 세월의 흔적에 높은 가치를 부여해 이를 시계 가치의 중요 요소로 삼습니다. 때문에 분해소지를 제외한, 외관을 복원하는 작업은 최대한 지양하는 편인데요.

나머지 하나는 전문가를 통한 복원 작업을 통해 과거 시계가 누렸던 가치와 명성을 다시금 부활시키고자 하는 것 입니다. 필자의 경우 후자에 속하며, 저에게 복원을 작업을 통해 새생명을 얻는 시계를 보는 것은 가장 큰 즐거움이자 시계라는 취미를 지속시키는 원동력으로 작용합니다. 

라도에서 현행으로 발매되는 시계는 신소재(세라믹) 사용을 통해 굉장히 모던하고 미래지향적인 디자인을 보여줍니다. 허나 과거의 라도는 이처럼 클래식한 멋으로 중무장해 손목 위에서 빛을 발휘합니다. 가죽 스트랩이 잘 어울리는 시계라 할 수 있습니다.  클래식한 멋을 한껏 증폭시키기 위해 버건디 컬러의 칼프(calf) 스트랩을 체결하였는데요. 요즘 날씨에 더욱 잘 어울리는 듯 합니다.

Rado is positioned between Hamilton and Omega in the Swatch Group. The brand is one of the leading watch company for its watchmaking skills by using ceramics. I prefer much vintage line of the brand rather than its modern line which shows future-oriented design. The brand had gained huge popularity in Japan between 1980s and 1990s and is still regarded as collectible items for many watch collectors. However, the brand recognition is not that famous here in Korea compared to Japan.

One of the vintage models of the brand in which I place a high value is 'Daymaster' and 'Green/Golden horse' model. The watches show classic design with its dauphine hands and arrow-shaped hour numeral makers. One of the distinctive elements of 'Daymaster' model which can be seen on the dial is a curved-day window at six o'clock. I was fully satisfied with the purchase of 'Daymaster' so that I could easily decide to buy this Green horse watch which has a similar design with the 'Daymaster'. 

I have a big penchant for this types of watches which look very elegant and gorgeous. It can be harmoniously matched with formal attire such as oxford shirts and buttoned jackets. The watch comes with 36 millimeter in diameter and 12 millimeter in thickness. The size of the watch could be a standard for men's size and is enough to shows strong presence on my wrist.  

My preference and affection have been shifted from Bulova's super seville to Rado's daymaster, recently. I will keep collecting this vintage line of the Rado.
