최근 제니스 빈티지 라인의 매력에 푹 빠져 도무지 헤어나오질 못하고 있습니다. 그저 시계 외관만 볼 줄 알았지 무브먼트에 대한 심도 깊은 지식은 전무한 저였는데요. 제니스 빈티지 라인을 알게되면서 무브먼트에 대한 공부도 시작하게 되었습니다. 

과거 40-60년대 제작되었던 제니스사의 수동 무브먼트의 매력은 정말 끝이 안 보이는 우물같습니다. 무브먼트 휠 브릿지(wheel bridge)에 음각으로 큼지막히 각인된 'ZENITH', 'SWISS MADE', 50시간이 육박한 파워 리저브 타임, 시스루백(see-through) 작업을 하고 싶을 만큼 매우 정갈하고 아름답게 디자인된 무브먼트 등 매력적인 요소가 정말 많습니다. 

당시 제작된 제니스사의 수동 무브먼트는 매우 견고한 내구성을 자랑하는데요. 보유하고 있는 녀석들을 보면 쉰을 훨씬 넘은 나이에도 우렁찬 밸런스휠 소리와 함께 건재함을 자랑합니다. 다이얼 12시 방향에 양각으로 놓여진 별 로고를 보는 것도 큰 즐거움 중 하나인데요. 

40년대 제작된 시계에는 프린팅이, 50-60년대 제작된 시계에는 양각으로 별(five-pointed) 로고가 새겨져 있습니다. 70년 대 이후 제작된 시계에는 잠시 와이파이 비슷한 문양이 새겨진 사각형 모양의 로고가 사용되기도 하였습니다. 허나 개인적으로 제니스의 아이덴티티라함은 자고로 별이란 생각을 해봅니다. 

'Zenith Caliber. 120'

Cal. 120 무브먼트를 탑재한 제니스사의 수동 시계입니다. 1953-1963년 사이 양산된 18석 수동 무브먼트이며 해당 기간 동안 10만개가 생산되었습니다. 다이얼이 매우 정갈하고 아름답습니다. 도톰히 솟아오른 양각 인덱스와 로고, 유려한 도피네(Dauphine) 핸즈가 시계의 매력을 끌어올리는 견인차 역할을 제대로 해주고 있습니다. 케이스는 36mm로 빈티지 시계치곤 매우 큰 사이즈를 자랑합니다. 러그는 18mm로 빈티지 시계에서 보이는 가장 보편적인 사이즈입니다.

I have been captivated with vintage line of Zenith recently. Beautifully designed movements make me to start collecting vintage line of Zenith. The watches manufactured in 1950's and 1960's have five-pointed stars on the top of the dials. I place a high value on this element while I collect the Zenith's watches. The movements which was manufactured in the period are functionally and seemingly well designed. It has lovely engravings on its wheel bridge : 'ZENITH' and 'SWISS MADE' which are beautifully decorated. The movements have almost 50-hour power reserve time as well as durability. 

Zenith's vintage watches manufacture in 1940's have printing star logos instead of embossed logo. The watches manufactured after 1950 have embossed star logos. This difference could be a main factor for many watch collectors while they are collecting Zenith's vintage timepieces. 

Here, we have one of vintage Zenith watches. A dial have been refinished on the basis of its original appearance. Sharp dauphine hands with a center second and embossed indexes make the watch neat and elegant. The watch is operated by Cal. 120 which was designed and marketed between 1953 to 1963. The movement features 48 power reserve time and has 18 jewels. 

My penchant for brand is always changing with various factors. I have been completely fascinated by Zenith's vintage line. I might keep collecting vintage Zenith watches for a while.
