오늘은 매우 귀한 시계 한 점을 소개할까 합니다. 변치 않는 가치 롤렉스의 'Ref. 16013' 오리지널 블루 다이얼 모델입니다. 1980년대 생산되었던 모델인데, 샴페인이나 실버 컬러의 다이얼은 어렵지 않게 보셨으리라 생각됩니다. 이 녀석은 복원을 거치지 않은 오리지널 그대로의 블루 다이얼입니다.
'빛의 반사에 따라 블랙으로 보이기도 합니다'
시중에 있는 'Ref. 16013' 블루 다이얼 모델은 복원된 경우가 대부분입니다. 국내는 물론 해외에서도 구하기가 하늘에 별따기와 비슷한 수준인지라 처음 손에 넣었을 때 기분은 이루 말할 수가 없습니다. 빛의 각도에 따라 한없이 영롱한 파란색을 띄기도 하며, 모던한 검은색으로 변모하기도 하는 매력적인 시계입니다.
'완벽한 사이즈, 36mm'
단순 다이얼 컬러가 블루이기에 귀한 것은 아닙니다. 이 시계가 귀한 이유는 바로 길트(gilt) 다이얼이기 때문입니다. 길트라는 단어가 생소하신 분들이 있을 듯 한데요. "금박을 입힌"이라는 의미의 형용사로 다이얼 제작 공정의 차이에서 단어의 사용 여부가 결정 됩니다. 보통 일반적인 다이얼의 경우, 스틸로 주조된 다이얼 위에 먼저 컬러 염색을 진행합니다. 이후, 염색된 다이얼 위에 텍스트 프린팅을 찍는 방식의 공정으로 다이얼 제작이 이루어지는데요. 길트의 경우 컬러 염색 전 금박을 입히는 작업을 먼저 진행합니다. 금박이 입혀진 다이얼 위 컬러 염색을 진행하며 이후 컬러 도료를 걷어 내어 다이얼 위 텍스트를 보이게 하는 형태입니다. 길트 다이얼의 특징은 마치 '옻칠'에서 경험할 수 있는 깊고 농후한 색을 발산한다는 것입니다.
'훌륭한 컨디션'
1980년대에 생산되어 30년이 넘는 세월을 보낸 시계이지만 신품급의 컨디션을 유지하고 있는 것도 눈에 띄는데요. 빈티지 롤렉스에서 가장 중요한 플루티드(fluted) 베젤은 일체의 마모 없이 최상의 컨디션을 보입니다. 크라운 마모도 및 쥬빌레(Jubilee) 밴드의 늘어짐, 버클의 왕관 마크 또한 민트 컨디션이라 할 수 있습니다. 이처럼 완벽한 상태의 컨디션에 그토록 구하기 어려운 오리지널 블루 다이얼까지 더해지니 참으로 귀하디 귀한 시계라 할 수 있습니다.
'빛의 반사각에 따른 다채로운 컬러 변화'
빛의 반사 각도에 따라 다채로운 색이 연출되는 것이 신기합니다. 어느 순간 보면 거의 블랙에 가까운 느낌이 나는 반면, 또 어떤 순간에는 언제 그랬냐는 듯 너무나 영롱한 파란빛을 발산합니다. 그 컬러의 스펙트럼이 너무나 넓어 매번 새로운 시계를 보는 듯 묘한 기분입니다. 당분간은 손목 위에서 내려올 일이 없을 것 같습니다만.. 앞일은 모르는 것이니 이 순간을 최대한 만끽하고자 합니다.

The Rolex Ref. 16013 With a Stunning Blue & Gilt Dial
Today, I am happy to introduce this amazing and unique timepiece. The Rolex ref. 16013 with an original blue dial. If you are a Rolex enthusiast, you might have seen many '16013' models which are mostly colored in champagne or silver for its dials. Today, I am here with the Rolex '16013' featuring an outstanding blue dial which is obviously authentic and in perfect condition. When I got the watch for the first time, it felt like I was walking on the sky because I truly knew that it's almost impossible to get this kind of piece these days.

The gorgeous and magnificent blue dial is in mint condition without any patina. The edges of a fluted bezel and a crown are also in its original shape. The jubilee band is nearly new without any stretching. Its acrylic glass also has no signs of wear. Every part of the watch is in almost unused condition, this makes the timepiece more valuable and collectible.

The dial changes its color at the varying angle of light hitting on the dial. It looks like black in some angle, and blue in other angle. Its spectrum of blue is also very extensive and various. Its iridescent feature makes watch more gorgeous and mysterious.
I have been longing to have a Rolex for more than five years. And when I got my very first Rolex(Ref. 16233 with a black dial), I resolved to myself; 'I am going to buy only Rolex watches from now on'. The satisfaction from having a Rolex was so high. Pretty soon I bought my second Rolex(Ref. 16233 with a champagne dial) and my third Rolex about which I am writing now.
The watch was manufactured in 1980's. At the time, people who were capable of buying Rolex watches were normally privileged and wanted to look more authoritative. So they tended to buy champagne or silver dial watches which seemed to them relatively fittable and more appropriate compared to colored dials like blue or green. Because they needed to maintain their social status. For this reason, a very small amount of colored dial watches were produced. This is why a blue dial Rolex 'ref. 16013' from 1980's is so unique and difficult to find in the market.
When you think of vintage Rolex, what comes up first in your mind? The design which has no much differences to the contemporary one? Or an item only for collectors and enthusiasts? Well, both are sort of right, but what I am trying to point out is its value. I'd like to define Rolex with an expression 'undying value'. There has been no price reduction for many years when it comes to vintage Rolex. Its prices have been increasing every year and it is really hard to find any depreciation in price.
On this account some watch collectors say like this; 'Rolex will never betray you in terms of investment'. It's funny but also obviously true for various reasons. Rolex can be defined as and comparable to gold in terms of property and investment.
