100년의 역사를 머금은 디자인
까르띠에 탱크 솔로 Ref.2742
시계 브랜드로서의 명성에 가장 큰 기여를 한 대표 모델을 꼽자면 개인적으로 탱크와 산토스를 거론하고 싶은데요. 산토스의 경우 '손목 위에 올리는 시계'라는 개념을 비즈니스에 적용하여 손목 시계의 상업화를 선두한 대표적인 모델입니다. 탱크는 창시자 루이 까르띠에가 1917년 1차 세계 대전에 활약한 프랑스의 르노(Renault) 탱크에서 영감을 얻어 제작되었으며, 100년 가까운 시간 동안 다양한 비즈니스 분야에 속한 여러 사람들에게 많은 사랑을 받고 있는 모델입니다.

탱크 솔로(Ref.2742) 라지 사이즈 모델이며, 솔리드 골드 소재에 케이스백은 스틸로 제작되었습니다. 시계의 심장으로는 쿼츠 무브먼트를 사용하였습니다. 남성용으로 나온 사이즈로 34.8mm × 27.4mm의 큼지막한 사이즈를 보여줍니다. 한 단계 아래 스몰로 나온 사이즈는 현재 단종된 머스트 라인과 비슷한 사이즈를 보여주고 있으며 한 단계 위의 XL 사이즈의 경우 쿼츠가 아닌 오토매틱 무브먼트를 탑재하고 있는 것이 특징입니다.
까르띠에, 디자인이 누네띠네
다운톤의 은빛 다이얼 위 볼드하게 놓여진 로만 인덱스, 그리고 블루핸즈의 조화는 깔끔한 디자인과 가시성을 동시에 충족 시켜줍니다. 까르띠에의 아이코닉한 카보숑 블루 사파이어 용두는 아쉽게도 인조석이 사용되었습니다. 허나 그 푸른빛의 영롬함은 잘 유지하고 있는 듯 보입니다. 러그는 20mm로 전형적인 맨사이즈입니다. 가장 보편적인 러그 사이즈, 그리고 심플리시티를 강조한 디자인 덕분에 스트랩 교체하는 재미가 쏠쏠할 듯 하네요.
100년의 역사가 집약된 디자인이기에 외형에 대한 아쉬움을 이야기하긴 어렵습니다만, 개인적으로 케이스백 소재에 대한 아쉬움은 많이 남습니다. 버클을 포함해 시계 착용 시 보이는 모든 부분은 금 소재입니다. 허나 케이스백의 소재는 스틸인데요. 리테일가가 조금 올라가더라도 같은 소재를 사용했으면 어땠을까 하는 생각이 드네요. 케이스백을 분해해보니 그리 두껍지도 않습니다.. 버클과 중량도 비슷할 듯 한데 차라리 버클을 스틸 소재로 제작했으면 좋았을텐데요. 시계의 얇은 두께 때문에 패딩이 없는 얇은 스트랩과 조화를 이룹니다. 패딩이 있는 스트랩을 체결할 경우 시계가 파묻히는 우스꽝스러운 모습이 연출되네요.

The Cartier's Tank is one of the most historic timepieces that dates back to the early 1900s. Louis Cartier designed the watch in the year 1917 inspired by Renault tanks. This refined and elegant tank-inspired timepiece has been gained popularity for many years as classic watch. It is one of the most iconic lines in Cartier which contains whole history of the brand in its design. The Cartier has a very strong presence in Swiss watch industry when it comes to both brand value and sales. The square-shaped case and Roman numeral hour markers (including hidden signature on VII) with sword-shaped blue hands are the most distinctive elements of the watch.
For many years since its release, the Tank line has accumulated and maintained these aesthetics to perfection. When you put the watch on your wrist, you will be realized how it works well as a dress watch.
This lovely watch(ref. 2742) comes with a 18 karat solid gold case with a stainless steel case back and a synthetic sapphire cabochon crown which is one of the Cartier's iconic elements. It is nice and attractive enough to bear the Cartier's brand value.
Indeed, I have no idea why Cartier do not use solid gold for its material of the case back.
The watch comes with a black alligator strap with a solid gold buckle. The strap starts at 20mm and narrows to 18mm. This watch should be matched with a non-padded strap on account of its slim size.
What pops up in your mind when you think of Cartier as watch brand? The early pioneer of commercializing wrist watches? or a just jewelry brand that performs well in the watch industry? Whatever it would be, the Cartier is one of the luxury watch brands in which most watch lovers want to add to theirs collection.
One of my personal favorite aspects of the watch is the rectangular-shaped case. It makes watch more classic and gorgeous. Bold Roman numeral hour markers and two hands(hour and minute) on the pale silvered opaline dial allow optimal legibility for wearers.
Even though there is no luminant on the dial, the high contrast between the dial and the blue hands offer a fine legibility. As all we know, the watch shows perfect harmony with suits for men. As soon as the weather gets cold, I will suit up every day to wear this lovely dress watch. The case is 34.8mm × 27.4mm in diameter and 5.55mm in thickness.
Compared to upper lines of Cartier such as the Tank Louis for instance, the Tank Solo is obviously an entry model. Nevertheless, when we think of its retail price, the Tank Solo is enough competitive model, especially for those who are on a limited budget.
