[TALKING WATCHES]

Why Do We Love Vintage Watches?

Are you a vintage watch enthusiast? If so, why do you think you like vintage watches so much? I have been collecting vintage watches for about 6 years. In the beginning, I collected various watches ranging from contemporary to vintage ones. However, as I dove deeper into the real world of watches, I got to realize the real value of vintage watches. One of the reasons why I like vintage watches is my penchant for classic style, but there are further reasons that kept me going as a watch collector.

Undying Value

First of all, there is no depreciation in the value of vintage watches. It is a common sense that most contemporary watches tend to depreciate after being purchased at stores. Most vintage watches have been at least more than 30 years since its first release. It means even after 1 or 2 years of passing since a purchase in the second-hand market, there is no big difference in the value of watches. I have been collecting vintage watches for about 6 years and there has been no price reduction for all of my collection.

The Optimum Size

Second, most watches manufactured before 1990's seem to have small diameters ranging between 30 to 36 millimeters. Due to their small size compared to contemporary watches, they are more suitable for those who have wrists under 17 centimeters round. Since their diameters are small, their dials tend to be more elaborate and stable in terms of its aesthetic and balance.

Both Artism and Mechanism

Normally, men are obsessed with a mechanism. They love gears, engines, and machinery. Being drawn to these seems like their instinct. In this respect, watches can be one of the most attractive belongings for men. Think about it, you can experience both artism and mechanism on your wrist.

The Story

Lastly, each vintage watch has its own unique story. Before the quartz crisis attacked the Swiss watch industry, mechanical watches were valuable items that were difficult to buy due to their high prices. So, when people buy a watch or give one to their beloved ones, they engraved letterings on the back of the case. Now, collectors can find various letterings on vintage watches such as "Love always", "From mom and dad" and so on. Vintage watch collectors find joy at this kind of finding. We have no idea whether the original watch owners are already gone or still here, but their memories and stories will stay here and now forever with their watches.
